I’m a highly qualified, experienced academic sociologist and executive coach
I am Professor and Associate Dean - Community in the College of Engineering and Computer Science at the Australian National University in Canberra, Australia. I served as Senior Advisor - Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity at the Australian Antarctic Division from 2020-22. I earned my PhD in Gender Studies in 2008 and a Master of Gender Studies in 2005, both from the University of Melbourne. I earned a Bachelor of Liberal Arts and Sciences from the University of Illinois in 2001. I have earned Level 1 and Level 2 Executive Coaching Certificates from the Institute for Executive Coaching and Leadership. I am an Associate Certified Coach with the International Coaching Federation. I can provide expert consultation on issues of equity, diversity and inclusion, and coaching in any organisational setting.

I am a sociologist who explores gendered inequalities in everyday life. My primary body of research focuses on leadership and organisational culture. I am an internationally recognised expert on leadership for women in STEMM fields. Recent projects have focused on the experiences of women of colour in STEMM, gendered fieldwork in remote polar settings, gender and sexual harassment in STEMM, and developing intersectional leadership programs for women. My excellence in research has been recognised via appointments to key national committees (e.g. Australian Women’s and Gender Studies Association) and through prestigious international visiting scholar appointments (e.g. Eleanor Glanville Centre, University of Lincoln, UK), and speaking invitations (e.g. National Science Week). I am the Equity and Inclusion Portfolio Leader for the Australian Sociological Association and serve on the Board of Women’s Health Tasmania.
